A GUIDE TO DATING AT THE END OF THE WORLD FINDS LOVE AT SYDNEY SCIENCE FICTION FILM FESTIVAL

Samuel Gay’s A GUIDE TO DATING AT THE END OF THE WORLD has been confirmed as the Closing Night film of this year’s Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival. The Brisbane-shot fantasy/romantic comedy will screen Sunday November 14 from 6.00pm, the centrepiece of an evening that will also include the 2021 Festival Awards Ceremony and an encore screening of Carl Firth’s global festival favourite, The Immortal.

TICKETS FOR THE CLOSING NIGHT SESSION ARE ON SALE HERE.

The debut directorial feature for Gay, who also wears co-writer and co-producer hats on the long-in-gestation project, A GUIDE TO DATING AT THE END OF THE WORLD tells the classic story of a pair of lovelorn singles, destined to fall into each others arms, if only mankind hadn’t been wiped out by the 2010 Hadron Collider experiment. Starring Kerith Atkinson, John Brockman and Jacki Mison, it comes to the festival via Label Distribution.

“We take science fiction pretty seriously at the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival,” says Festival Director Simon Foster, “but sometimes it feels nice to use the genre for some feel-good giggles and sweet-natured romance. Sam Gay’s crowdpleaser will be just the tonic after an intense few days of movie-watching.”

“It’s an absolute blast (pun intended) to be invited to close the Festival with our film, which has been so long coming it felt like the world might actually end before the film was ever released”, says Director Samuel Gay. “My co-writer Stewart Klein and I are huge fans of the sci-fi genre and look forward to the film premiering in Sydney to a genre-savvy audience”.

Prior to the feature presentation, Carl Firth’s short film sensation The Immortal will return to dazzle Sydney audiences. Guy Edmonds stars as a man, fearful of death, who discovers the secret of immortality, but learns that eventually, everything dies. Also featuring actress Maeve Dermody and Hollywood star James Cromwell, The Immortal previously played the iconic Flickerfest Film Festival as well as a myriad of overseas events.

A Guide to Dating at The End of The World and The Immortal will also be available via the 2021 SSFFF Virtual Festival Experience, the online festival that will provide global and local science fiction to a national audience. Tickets for the virtual event will be on sale soon.
