90 YEARS OF THE FIRST MASTERPIECE OF ITALIAN SCI-FI COMICS
Long before the global rise of modern space opera, the screen of comics imagination was already speaking Italian. Created in 1936 by the visionary genius of Cesare Zavattini (father of cinematic Neorealism), scripted with mastery by Federico Pedrocchi, and brought to life by the futuristic art of Giovanni Scolari, Saturn Against the Earth (Saturno Contro la Terra) is the very first great Italian sci-fi saga.
This groundbreaking work anticipated the tropes of international space opera: disintegrator rays, darkening gases, cosmic battles, mutating radiation, and the iconic galactic tyrant, King Rebo. Confronted by an apocalyptic alien threat, humanity sets aside its geopolitical divisions, entrusting its fate to the brilliance of Prof. Marcus and the bravery of Ciro.

Celebrating the 90th anniversary of the saga, this project bridges the Ninth Art (Comics) and the Seventh Art (Cinema) through the screening of the motion comic film at the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival 2026.
